THE kingdom of the Ngezi people of the Mupamombe tribe is found in Mhondoro district, Mashonaland West, and has a rich history since the whites came to this country.

Mambo Ngezi

This empire began in the 1860’s.
King Ngezi, Peter Pasipamire, says his kingdom is inhabited by six Zinyongo families with Chanakira and Chideya, Gangaza, Nenyati, Mukwasi, Nyaromo and Gwazvo families.
However, they say that the two Nyaromo and Gwazvo houses will no longer be allowed to sit on the throne for various reasons.

“Currently we are left with four houses inhabited by the Ngezi kingdom – Zinyongo, Gangaza, Nenyati and Mukwasi. “I am King Ngezi and I belong to the Gangaza family. The Gwazvo house does not remain in power because the perpetrators of this crime need to be paid by their daughter which is not allowed by the law of this country and Nyaromo’s house no longer exists,” said Mambo Ngezi.

They say that their first king was known as Stone. “We Ngezi family came from Zambia as Tongan people and settled in Kariba. In Zambia we were known for magic, we lived with animals like lions and even socialized with them without being bitten or attacked, ”said Mambo Ngezi.

Like all other chiefs, they have their holy mountain called Chivare where the first King Ngezi was buried and where they pour out their people.

They say that the first King Ngezi had one sister called Chinyama.
“We are different Tongans from Binga because our daughter does not live in the kingdom. The history of our empire was first written by the Portuguese. We have descendants who once lived in our Mudodowafa family kingdom which resulted in our kingdom being called Mupawose, these descendants were the children of Chatora who was our son-in-law, ”he said.

King Ngezi says his kingdom before this country gained full independence was unsustainable and was dissolved in 1980.
“In our history, Chanakira one of our Mupamombe fled here to Mhondoro fleeing the battle of Madzviti and went to Seke where many of us are today. In the year 1983, this kingdom came back to us from our descendants and was occupied by Enock Mackenzie who passed away in 2004. From that year onward, a search was made for an apartment building. ” they say.

At the time, they said that Barnabas Machipisa had been appointed on behalf of his younger brother, Enock Mackenzie’s younger brother.

They say their kingdom was taken over by the grandchildren when their son-in-law Mudodowafa was a tax collector and was secretly given the kingdom by the whites.
“Our empire from 1900 was opposed to the settlement of our descendants until 1978 when King Mupawose was number eight and died. It was not until a royal child was born, until 1983, when Enock Mackenzie was installed as the ninth King Ngezi, ”said King Ngezi.

They say their descendants have ruled since 1900 and have four children, Soweto, Gomba, Mupawose and Mugwa.

“These grandchildren were the children of Runamo’s daughter from our Ngezi Mupamombe tribe. It was here that these four chiefs ruled fraudulently and were given the monarchy in commercial matters because their father Chatora was a tax collector in the white government. ”

King Ngezi claims to be the 10th King Ngezi and was appointed in 2013.
“We have our sacred sites including Chingondo, the Hangaa mountain and also the Kwekwe area of King Gwesela district and to the Zisco Steel company and Kadoma under King Ngezi and those who are there know that. They even call us when they make their custom. The chiefs say Chireya, Mukoka and Neuso are the brothers of King Ngezi, ”he said.

King Ngezi says the sacred sites of his tribe also include the Mupamombe hill located at the Venice Mine, Kadoma.

“We go brewing beer on this hill every year in September. Our fortune teller is now found in Mayambara, in Seke where our spirit takes refuge in a Chanakira child named Vengai Chanakira, ”said Mambo Ngezi.
