Miss Supranational 2022 Lalela Mswane, who recently made Mzansi proud after she made history in Poland has finally returned home.

Lalela defied odds after she became the first black South African woman to be crowned Miss Supranational in Poland, on 15 July 2022.

Lalela landed at the OR Tambo International on Friday morning and her adoring fans flocked to the airport to welcome her.

Speaking at a press conference Lalela Mswane said:

“Being in Poland for the past fortnight, ahead of my return to Johannesburg, gave me a chance to let everything sink in. I am grateful and share the crown with everyone in this country. I am the first black woman to have won the title – what a time to be alive. It’s been a big week for women following the Banyana Banyana win and return home. I am filled with national pride.”

Through a statement from the Miss SA organization, Lalela said her crown is Mzansi’s victory. She thanked all those people who stood by her supporting her all the way.

Mswane beat contestants from 69 countries who participated in the recently held competition in Poland.

She broke a record previously held by Thato Mosehle, who last year became the first woman of colour to represent SA at the pageant, the first to do so under the official Miss SA banner, and the first to make it into the Top 3.

She also finished third at the 2021 Miss Universe and was the only African Beauty Queen in the Top 16 of the tournament in 2021.
