In a widely shared video making rounds on social media, a Zimbabwean bus, suspected of carrying illegal immigrants, managed to outsmart the Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) during an incident on the N1 south.

A persistent traffic officer attempted to halt the bus, but the skilled driver skillfully manoeuvred to the opposite lane.

Skilled Maneuvers Amidst Pursuit

As tension heightened, the bus executed daring moves, overtaking a trucker who, upon realizing the unfolding chase, decided to join and assist the efforts of the traffic cops.

Passengers aboard the Sable Class bus enthusiastically rallied behind their driver, urging him to keep going and evade the pursuing police. Amid cheers, one passenger could be heard encouraging the bus driver to “push it off the road,” as the adrenaline-fueled chase unfolded.

The TMPD car, in collaboration with the trucker, successfully slowed down the Sable Class bus, forcing it to a stop. Despite being cornered, passengers continued to support their driver, advising him to reverse and make a swift escape from the traffic officer.

In a subsequent video showing the aftermath of the chase, the front bumper of the TMPD car was visibly mangled, providing evidence of the high-speed chase’s intensity and the bus driver’s determination to evade capture.

As per NewsPanther‘s report, TMPD spokesperson Isaac Mahamba explained that the bus was initially flagged down for a routine inspection on the R21 highway. However, the driver ignored the signal and sped away.

The police diligently pursued the bus for approximately 15 kilometres until they were able to bring it to a halt near the OR Tambo International Airport. Upon inspection, it was discovered that the bus was carrying 65 passengers, the majority of whom lacked proper travel documentation.

Legal Consequences for Zimbabwean Bus Driver Who Evaded Tshwane Police

The driver was subsequently apprehended and will likely face charges ranging from reckless and negligent driving, failure to comply with police instructions, and the transportation of illegal immigrants. The passengers were handed over to the Department of Home Affairs for verification and eventual deportation.

Mahamba expressed the TMPD’s deep concern regarding the growing number of cross-border buses that flout the law and endanger public safety. In response, he emphasized that the TMPD would intensify its operations to crack down on these buses and ensure their compliance with regulations.
