Thabo Mbeki Is Not Dead: Foundation Dispels Death Rumours Alleging Former South African President has Died
Former South African president Thabo Mbeki is not dead, he is very much alive and well.
Unfounded death rumours have been circulating on social media today alleging that Thabo Mbeki has died. Thabo Mbeki was alleged to have died in hospital after a short illness.
However, it turns out the death rumours were just another hoax.

Foundation Dismisses Thabo Mbeki Death Rumours
The Thabo Mbeki Foundation has released a statement dispelling the death rumours. The Foundation revealed that there are aware of the death rumours that have circulating on social media.
“Statement Regarding President Thabo Mbeki’s Health
The Thabo Mbeki Foundation is aware of recent, unfounded reports circulating on social media regarding the health of the Patron of the Thabo Mbeki Foundation, President Thabo Mbeki.”
The Foundation categorically stated that Thabo Mbeki is very much alive and in good health.
“We categorically deny these reports and wish to assure the public that President Mbeki is in good health,” reads part of the statement.
Thabo Mbeki’s Foundation ended the statement by urging social media users to exercise caution with online information and avoid spreading falsehoods.
Additionally, the Foundations urged netizens to rely on their official channels for factual information about Thabo Mbeki’s wellbeing.
“We urge caution and responsible engagement with online information, particularly during a time when misinformation can spread rapidly.
We appreciate your concern and ask that you rely on official channels for accurate information about President Mbeki’s well-being and activities.”
Death Hoax
Meanwhile, this is not the first time he has been alleged to have died. In 2021, a death hoax message ppurporting that Thabo Mbeki has died of Covid-19 went viral on social media.
Thabo Mbeki was alleged to have succumbed to Covid-19 after battling the virus for four days.
“BREAKING NEWS: ex president Thabo Mbeki has just passed away of the COVID 19 virus after battling it for the past 4 days. The ex president passed away in his Killarney residence which he was being treated from, says his wife Zanele Dlamini Mbeki,” read the fake death message.
The Thabo Mbeki Foundation rubbished the death rumours.
