South Africans are very difficult to please, it seems. Multi-talented celebrity Somizi Mhlongo’s best-selling cookbook Dinner at Somizi’s: I Am Not A Chef has been getting a lot of negative reviews from people not impressed with the actor’s unorthodox recipes.

When Somizi’s cookbook was launched in late 2020, it nearly crashed the system. Just a couple of hours after launching his cookbook: Dinner at Somizi’s: I Am Not A Chef, the media personality revealed that pre-sale orders had hit the roof.

A few months down the line, Somizi’s cookbook became the number one selling book in the food and beverage chart in South Africa. Renowned British chef, restaurateur, and cookbook author, Jamie Oliver had to settle for second place behind the Dinner at Somizi cookbook.

However, despite all these achievements, some South Africans are not impressed with the book and have been giving it negative reviews on social media. According to some of the tweeps, they bought the book, only to realise that the recipes were not up to form.

However, other social media users defended Somzi and his unorthodox combinations. They accused his critics of being close-minded and unadventurous.

I bought Somizi’s cookbook, then returned it for a full refund. He had a mogodu and blue cheese recipe, I knew it wasn’t for me please.
