Shamva Man Transforms Home Into Rehabilitation Haven for Youth Battling Drug Addiction
In a remarkable display of community compassion, Lancos Kuuyangepi, a resident of Wadzanai in Shamva, Mashonaland Central province has converted his residence into a sanctuary for troubled youth grappling with drug addiction.
Recognizing the urgent need for support in his area, Lancos embarked on a personal mission to combat the scourge of substance abuse affecting young people, not only within his community but extending a helping hand to those from neighboring regions as well.
What was once a conventional suburban dwelling has now been repurposed into a haven of hope and healing, where individuals struggling with addiction can find refuge and guidance on their journey toward recovery. Equipped with a team of dedicated volunteers and professionals, Lancos’ home operates as a rehabilitation center, providing comprehensive support services tailored to each individual’s needs.
The initiative dubbed Lancos’ Drug Abuse Rehabilitation Facility (LDARF), aims at addressing the root causes of addiction while fostering a supportive environment conducive to personal growth and transformation. Through a combination of counseling, therapy sessions, and recreational activities, participants are empowered to reclaim control of their lives and break free from the grip of addiction.
This humanitarian endeavor has garnered widespread praise from members of the community and the people he has helped, who commend his selfless dedication to helping those in need.
“Mr Lancos’ compassion and commitment to making a positive difference in our lives is truly inspiring, I was in the top 10 of the drug users known in the area but being in this rehabilitation center has helped me reflect on my life and take a step towards change,” remarked Tadiwa, one of the youths in the facility.
Despite facing numerous challenges along the way, including logistical hurdles and financial constraints, the rehabilitation center remains undeterred in its mission to provide a lifeline to those battling addiction having seen the danger that drugs pose to the youths
“Every individual who walks through our doors deserves a chance at a better life and we are here to offer them the support and resources they need to embark on a journey of healing and renewal”, said Lancos.
According to the Zimbabwe Civil Liberties and Drugs Network report, the number of young people abusing drugs has risen from 43% to 57% between 2017 and 2019.
Yesterday, a video was trending on social media allegedly of a Zimbabwean youth cutting himself and taking out his intestines after taking drugs.
A few weeks back, a Kwekwe man fell from a high-rise building and it was alleged that he was into drugs.
Amidst all this chaos caused by drugs in the country, Lancos has vowed to continue supporting young people battling drug and substance abuse.
