3 Things Marvel’s Disney+ Shows Need To Fix

The three missing pieces to Marvel’s Disney+ shows

Here is a truth that nobody seems ready to admit about Marvel’s Phase Four, and their recent attempts to make inroads into television- it’s all kinds of confusing.

The death of Robert Downey Jnr’s Tony Stark, Scarlett Johansson’s  Natasha Romanoff’s characters, coupled with the retirement of Chris Evans’ Captain America, has created a vacuum that looks almost impossible to fill.

The real-life death of Chadwick Bosman back in 2020 has complicated things on the set of the Black Panther sequel, while the fate of Tom Holland Spiderman beyond a rumoured third movie remains in the air.

All these factors combine to complicate any ideas of future Avengers movies.

To their credit, Marvel seems to have diversified their portfolio with the Disney+ streaming service now home to a string of Marvel television shows.

Trying to configure a pattern after the release of WandaVision, What If…..?, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Loki and Hawkeye have not hit the chords we all expected.

The latest edition said Disney+ television slate ‘Moon Knight’ has only complicated things.

However, not all hope is lost.

If there is one lesson Marvel can take from their DC Comics counterparts, it is how to run a proper television division.

Crossover events have so much untapped potential, and DC had really set the bar high with the Arrowverse.

They did just about everything right with shows like Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl, and only dropped the ball when they started adding way too many shows into the mix.

Marvel doesn’t even have to look across the pond to see the benefits of a television-centred universe, as their Netflix shows were doing so great up until the streaming service decided to pull the plug on the project.

Why? Only God knows.

Still, The Defenders was a great culmination of the work done on shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and even the Punisher.

With Disney+, Marvel starts all over and all they will need are three missing pieces or characters that sow the seeds and nurture their television division.

These characters will also bring some much-needed credibility to the vision of the current shows on their plate.

Let’s get into them.

  1.   Phil Coulson

Let’s start by addressing the huge elephant in the room, shall we?

One of the things that Marvel’s television division is missing is the Nick Fury type character, one who seems to know all the secrets, has the freedom to show up on every show and is capable of playing father figure and confidante for all the heroes.

With the original Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) somewhere in space, gallivanting with the Krees and setting up SWORD, then who better to take his place than the only person who seems to know all of Fury’s actual secrets-Phil Coulson.

While the human Coulson died a long time ago, a couple of times even somewhere in the MCU is an LMD (Life Model Decoy) of Coulson that has all the memories and feelings for the real thing.

LMD Coulson will bring fans of Marvel’s Agents of Shield, arguably their television series, while with the character Marvel will always have a starting point if ever they want to make a crossover event or an ensemble team on the small screen.

3 Things Marvel’s Disney+ Shows Need To Fix
  1. Skye aka Daisy Johnson

Every Nick Fury type character needs their own muscle or a Maria Hill, and who better to accompany Clark Greg to Disney+ than Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson.

When we last saw her in the Agents of Shield series, she has reunited with her sister, more comfortable with her Quake powers and persona and flying off to space.

However, there are so many Quake-related stories to explore in the current MCU and Disney+.

For one, her natural tendency toward hot-headedness has won her few friends with her mentor-student relationship with Nick Fury being described as a close one.

Johnson also has strong ties to Wolverine and the X-men and many more Marvel characters

With a Secret Wars series coming sometime this year, this could provide a perfect opportunity to re-introduce Chloe Bennet or introduce a version of the character.

  1. More Defenders making their way to the MCU

After Charlie Cox’s surprise cameo in last year’s Spiderman: No Way Home, and Vincent D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk showing up in Hawkeye, I think it’s safe to say that they do have some form of a plan for their old Netflix shows.

Those plans remain to be seen, but I think it would be a grave injustice if Cox and DÓnofrio’s cameos were just that…Cameos.

Wilson Fisk can be Disney+ big bad as tries to regain the power and influence he supposedly lost during the Thanos blip, and this is another opportunity for a meg-crossover event.

The Defenders-Disney+ Shows

We are also dying for the return of more of Cox’s Daredevil persona and friends like Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) Danny Rand (Finn Jones), Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and even Colleen Wing (Jessica Henwick), Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) and Rosario Dawson Claire Temple.

On top of these being great characters and shows, the actors playing them were so perfectly cast that it would be a waste to either shelve them for long or simply cast them.
